Games Rules

3rd- 8th Grade Divisions

  • Game Support - Home team provides a clock operator, away team provides a scorekeeper
  • Coaches/players must pick up all trash around the team benches after every game
  • Respect must be shown to all coaches, players and referee
  • Playing Rules - all MHSAA rules will apply except for the following
  • Ball size will be 28.5 for boys and girls 3-6th grade divisions
  • Game time will be two 20-minute halves with a running clock (clock stops on all dead balls in the last two minutes of the second half)
  • Two minute over-time with a jump ball start for all games that end in a tie, each team is allowed one 30-second timeout. Sudden death after the first over-time
  • Two time outs per half, no carry-overs
  • If a team does not have 5 players and a coach present 5 minutes after the schedule game start time, the game will be subject to forfeit for that team (at the discretion of the site director)
  • Second half will begin with ball possession
  • Players must play at least half of the game
  • Game jerseys/t-shirts must have numbers on the back
  • Players are allowed 5 personal fouls. At the 5th foul the player is disqualified
  • 1 and 1 bonus begins at 7 team fouls. Double bonus begins on the 10th team foul
  • Two shot free throws for shooting/technical fouls

Offense

  • Ten seconds to advance the ball to half court
  • Five seconds allowed in the lane for 3/4th grade division and three seconds allowed in the lane for 5/6th and 7/8th grade divisions

Defense

  • Pressing is not allowed in the 3/4th division. Defense must set up at half court before offense advances. Trapping in corners is allowed.
  • Pressing is allowed in the 5/6th and 7/8th grade divisions except if the wining team is leading by 20 or more points
  • Man to man only until 7/8th grade division.
  • All defenses are allowed for the 7/8th grade division
